Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Hussein Eissa on Monday met Secretary-General of the Shanghai Co-operation Organisation (SCO) Nurlan Yermekbayev in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on the sidelines of the 2026 SCO Summit.

Eissa is attending the summit on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
During the meeting, the senior Egyptian official stressed the importance Egypt attaches to boosting co-operation with SCO member states, and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to building effective and fruitful partnerships with regional and international organisations.

Such partnerships contribute to consolidating security and stability and achieving sustainable development at both the regional and international levels, he added.

Eissa lauded the SCO’s role as a multilateral platform for consultations on regional security issues, combating terrorism and extremism, and promoting development co-operation.

He also highlighted Egypt joining the organisation as a dialogue partner in 2022, noting that this step has contributed to enhancing its ties with member states in trade, investment, financial cooperation, regional security, and counter-terrorism.

Eissa commended Kyrgyzstan’s efforts during its chairmanship of the organisation in 2025 and 2026, expressing Egypt’s hope that the SCO will continue to develop cooperation initiatives with partner countries.

For his part, SCO Secretary-General Yermekbayev praised Egypt’s growing role on the international stage, highlighting its humanitarian contributions and initiatives supporting development and multilateral co-operation.

He also noted Egypt’s significant political and economic weight at both the regional and global levels.
