Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Ambassador Nabil Habashy on Wednesday emphasised Egypt’s keenness to further deepen development co-operation with Germany, particularly in the areas of technical education, vocational training, labour mobility and regular migration.
During his visit to Germany, Deputy Minister Habashy met with Parliamentary State Secretary at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Co-operation and Development Johann Saathoff, where the two sides reviewed the progress of Egyptian-German development co-operation and discussed opportunities to expand the partnership.
During the meeting, the Deputy Foreign Minister expressed Egypt’s appreciation for its longstanding partnership with the German Federal Ministry for Economic Co-operation and Development, commending the role of the Egyptian-German Centre for Jobs, Migration and Reintegration.
He underscored the Egyptian government’s aspiration to further develop the centre into an integrated “one-stop shop” that can support the qualification of Egyptian personnel, connect them with employment opportunities and facilitate greater co-operation on the recognition of Egyptian qualifications.
Parliamentary state secretary affirmed Germany’s commitment to strengthening its development partnership with Egypt, recognising the country’s important role in the region.
He pointed to the German labour market’s need for skilled personnel and expressed readiness to expand pathways for regular migration and joint vocational training.
The two sides also stressed the importance of continued coordination on labour mobility ahead of the upcoming Labour Mobility Forum, scheduled to take place in Egypt next month.
As part of efforts to strengthen bilateral co-operation in labour mobility, deputy FM signed a Letter of Intent with the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Labour of the Free State of Saxony.
The Letter of Intent aims to establish a framework for regular and safe migration and labour mobility from Egypt to Saxony.
Meanwhile, the deputy FM also met with members of the Egyptian community in Germany, outlining the Foreign Ministry’s efforts to strengthen communication with Egyptians abroad and enhance the services and initiatives provided to them.
He also listened to the community’s key concerns, challenges and proposals.
