‘Decent Life’ achieves the comprehensive concept of human rights, a senior official said Thursday.

Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala el-Saeed lauded the efforts by the Egyptian government in executing many of the developmental initiatives that guarantee human rights.

This statement came during her participation in the ‘Human Rights – Building a Post-Pandemic World conference, organised by the Egyptian Centre for Strategic Studies (ECSS).

“The ‘Decent Life’ initiative has succeeded in reducing poverty rates and providing services in villages to achieve sustainable development goals (SDGs) both nationally and internationally,” el-Saeed said noting that the United Nations has included the initiative within ‘International SDGs Good Practices’ as they are specific, verifiable, time-bound, measurable, and match many of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

El-Saeed also referred to initiatives to eradicate Virus C and detect obesity, stunting and anemia.

In recent years, the government has also intensified public investment to develop transport, drinking water and sanitation, and electricity services, el-Saeed said, adding that the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development is channelling public investments in such a way to prioritise tasks according to financing need, addressing disparities in development between governorates, ensuring transparency as well as providing and updating information on the performance of development programmes.

“The UN report, ‘Corona and Human Rights – All Together’ by the United Nation, published in April 2020, serves as a compass that directs all countries of the world alike towards the necessary efforts to recover from this crisis,” el-Saeed said.

The minister also noted the measures set by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) necessary for the recovery phase from the effects of the pandemic until 2030.
