Nigeria’s Dangote Group probing opportunities to expand its industrial investments into Egypt, a move that could strengthen economic and investment ties between Africa’s two largest economies.
The announcement was made during a visit by a high-level Egyptian delegation, led by Investment and Foreign Trade Minister Mohamed Farid, to the group’s industrial complex in Lagos. The delegation held talks with Aliko Dangote, Chairman and CEO of the group, to explore potential industrial partnerships and expansion opportunities in several strategic sectors.
The visit aimed to translate growing diplomatic and economic relations between Egypt and Nigeria into tangible investments and industrial partnerships, Minister Farid said. He also highlighted opportunities for co-operation in refining, petrochemicals, fertilisers and other industrial sectors, noting that Egypt’s industrial base and Nigeria’s energy resources provided a strong foundation for closer collaboration.
The discussions also addressed potential joint projects involving Egyptian and Nigerian companies, with representatives of Egypt’s petroleum sector, the Sovereign Fund of Egypt, the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones, and the Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company, taking part.
Dangote described Egypt as the group’s next destination for expansion in Africa, reaffirming its commitment to supporting industrialisation and economic development across the continent.
Representatives of Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources highlighted the country’s attractiveness as a destination for investment in refining and petrochemicals, citing its advanced infrastructure, strategic location, storage facilities and export capabilities.
The talks are expected to pave the way for new areas of co-operation extending beyond refining and petrochemicals to include fertiliser production, manufacturing, energy-related investments and industrial services, thereby supporting wider African economic integration and industrial development.
