Egyptian Culture Minister Inas Abdel-Dayem on Thursday announced the launch of the second stage of her ministry’s efforts for the Decent Life presidential initiative.

Phase two comprises 1,174 activities in 106 villages in seven governorates, running until February 2022.

The minister said the overall development the initiative seeks to realise runs in tandem with development of society’s awareness by staging intellectual and cultural activities.

These activities target different age groups and include musical and art shows in addition to intellectual and cultural workshops, she added.

In Assiout, 18 villages were chosen, five in Qena, six in Ismailia and 16 in Kafr el-Sheikh, the minister explained.

Abdel-Dayem explained that the events address all segments of society with artistic and musical concerts by the Egyptian Opera House, children’s shows, heritage and folk art, plus artistic and literary workshops to discover talent.

Handicraft workshops for children and girls in the villages will offer training in each governorate with a view to their preservation, raising new generations of skilled technicians.

There will also be intellectual seminars to discuss important social issues with the participation of writers and thinkers, Abdel-Dayem said.

The Culture Ministry’s participation is over several stages, of which the first was in May with 74 activities in 21 villages affiliated in 6 governorates.

Eight free-of-charge theatrical performances were held in open squares with the participation of senior artists in 15 villages affiliated to 3 governorates, 4 villages in Qena, 7 villages in Luxor and 4 villages in Minya for audiences totalling more than 24,000.

Mobile theatres are also taking part in the initiative with 66 cultural activities implemented.

Ministry efforts include supplying school and youth centre libraries in the targeted villages with Ministry of Culture literature on various topics of social and personal import.

The publications are in cooperation with the ministries of youth and sports, education and technical education.
