Egypt’s Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad has lauded the keenness shown by the presidency of the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) to continuously communicate with heads of the teams tasked with conducting informal consultations of the conference to get acquainted with the latest visions and recommendations reached.

The minister said countries hope that COP28 would come out with a transformative path to the New Collective Quantified Goal on Climate Finance.

Fouad made the remarks as she participated in a video conference meeting held by COP28 President-Designate Sultan al Jaber with bilateral teams of the environment and climate ministers to discuss the latest developments as regards conducting negotiations and informal consultations on the climate agenda at the political level.

Canadian Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Simon Stiell, and COP28 CEO Adnan Amin also took part in the meeting, along with a number of environment and climate ministers.

Fouad said consultations on climate financing have been constructive and witnessed consensus on the need to move forward with clear goals in a way that helps achieve the required credibility and realize the ambition to double adaptation financing.
