CAIRO – Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has asserted that Egypt pays great attention to supporting and deepening the electronics industry locally, expressing hope for promoting co-operation with South Korea in this important industry.
Talaat’s statements came on the sidelines of his participation in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Plenipotentiary Conference 2022 (PP-22), held from September 26 to October 14 in Bucharest, Romania.
The minister pointed out to Egypt’s pioneering experiment in building digital creation centres and supporting cooperation with world companies in increasing entrepreneurships and startups.
Minister Talaat met with South Korean Minister of Science, Communications and Information Technology Lee Jong-Ho and discussed with him a number of issues of mutual concern and cooperation between the two countries in the fields of communications and information technology.
The minister is due to deliver Egypt’s address to the event Tuesday and meet with international figures taking part in the conference which is attended by ICT Ministers, senior officials, and representatives from the Member States.
The ICT Minister will deliver a speech during the Policy Statements sessions, through which he will review the most significant ICT developments, as well as the plans and programs implemented in Egypt, which meet ITU global trends, in cooperation with the Member States to foster ICT development globally.
The ministers who take part in the event will discuss the most significant international communication developments and means to enhance cooperation in ICTs.
The Plenipotentiary Conference is the highest policy-making body of the ITU. Held every four years, ITU PP is the key event at which ITU Member States decide on the future role of the organization, thereby determining the organization’s ability to influence and affect the development of ICTs worldwide.
The Conference sets the Union’s general policies; adopts four-year strategic and financial plans; and elects the senior management team of the organization (the Secretary-General, the Deputy Secretary-General, and the directors of ITU sectors’ offices), the Member States of the Council, and the members of the Radio Regulations Board (RRB).
