Co-operation between Egypt and the World Food Programme (WFP) was the focus of an official meeting in Cairo Wednesday.
Minister of International Co-operation Rania el-Mashat reviewed her ministry’s efforts to broaden partnership prospects with the WFP with focus on developing and improving living standards in rural communities.
El-Mashat said her ministry is looking forward to consolidating ties within the WFPs new country strategy for 2023-2027, which is part of the strategic framework of the partnership with the UN.
WFP Country Director-Egypt Praveen Agrawal, who took the post recently and el-Mashat looked into the possibility of turning the Luxor Centre Innovation and Knowledge Sharing Platform into a centre of excellence, the first of its kind in Africa, to be included in a WFP initiative.
El-Mashat also reviewed her ministry’s strategy to bolster ties with development partners at the bilateral and multilateral levels, while supporting Egypt’s development vision, and achieve the sustainable development goals (SDGs), an official press release said.
The minister also reviewed the ministry’s efforts within the framework of Presidential Decree 303/2004 to boost and develop ties with development partners in order to provide soft financing to all sectors, including the private sector.
For his part, Agrawal said the WFP focuses on joint action with Egypt as part of the 2023-2027 strategy in food security and nutrition, building community capacity for resilience, social protection and private sector participation, as well as supporting refugees in co-operation with the ministry.
