Egypt’s National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) announced on Sunday in its 15th weekly report for 2026 that 4,149 food export consignments totaling 237,000 tons were shipped during April 18–24, with Saudi Arabia remaining the top destination for Egyptian food exports.

Citrus led fruit exports at 60,000 tons, while potatoes topped vegetable exports at 20,000 tons. The authority also issued 1,294 export health certificates to support international trade.

The report highlighted broad regulatory activity across the food sector, including 1,713 inspection missions covering 6,180 food establishments nationwide, alongside intensive joint campaigns with other oversight bodies targeting unsafe and unlicensed food operations.

NFSA said it is actively supporting Egypt’s 2026 local wheat procurement season through field monitoring and operational coordination to ensure compliance with safety standards in storage sites and bakeries.

On the domestic front, 306 new food-related public establishments were registered during the week, bringing the total number of registered establishments to 76,110.

Officials said the week’s activities reflect intensified efforts to strengthen food safety controls, support exports, and ensure safe food supplies across Egypt.
