CAIRO – Liao Liqiang, the Chinese Ambassador in Cairo, has greatly appreciated Egypt’s support for his country to host the winter Olympic Games.
It is a sign of exchanged solidarity and support, Liao said Monday night during the lighting up of Cairo Tower to mark the winter Olympic Games in Beijing.
The light show is of great significance, especially for sports fans and supporters of peace worldwide, the diplomat noted.
Beijing is set to hold the Olympic torch-lighting ceremony after 10 days, Liao said.
He made it clear that Egypt was the first Arab and African country to establish diplomatic relations with China.
Over the past 65 years, the Egyptian and Chinese peoples have always stood by each other, particularly where Olympic goals are concerned, the ambassador said.
Egypt is planning to host the summer Olympic Games of 2036, he noted.
