Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), Hassan Abdalla, led the country’s delegation to the 48th Annual Meetings of the Association of African Central Banks (AACB) in Nairobi, hosted by the Central Bank of Kenya, September 13-18.
Governors of 34 central banks out of the association’s 41 member central banks, representing 53 African countries, attended the annual event.
The CBE chief took part in several high-level meetings, including the annual Governors’ Symposium, themed “Monetary integration and financial sovereignty in Africa: Strategic insights into reducing the continent’s reliance on international institutions.”
Abdalla also participated in the annual meeting of the Council of Governors on September 18, which reviewed the AACB’s activities for the current year and the work programme for the coming year.
The Council meeting was preceded by meetings of the Technical Committee of Experts and the Bureau, September 13–16.
The council approved the composition of the association’s Bureau of Governors for the coming year, with the CBE joining the Bureau as Vice Chair for the North Africa Region, paving the way for Egypt’s assumption of the regional chairmanship in 2028.
The council approved the publication of the second edition of the African Financial Stability Report.
The CBE chairs the working group responsible for preparing the report, with the participation of a number of African central banks representing various regions of the continent.
Meanwhile, Abdalla participated in the introductory meeting of the Board of Directors of the African Monetary Institute (AMI), which includes Egypt, Tunisia, and Morocco as members representing the North African region, along with 12 central banks representing the association’s five regions.
