The Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) has decided to increase key policy rates by 100 basis points (1 percentage point) at its meeting on Thursday.
Following this adjustment, the overnight deposit rate stands at 20.00 per cent, the overnight lending rate at 21.00 per cent, and the rate for the main operation at 20.50 per cent.
Accordingly, the discount rate has been raised to 20.50 per cent.
This proactive monetary tightening reflects ongoing global economic headwinds and sustained market volatility.
By adjusting the policy rate structure, the CBE seeks to curb domestic inflationary pressures, firmly anchor inflation expectations, and support a consistent disinflationary path.
