The ninth Cairo Water Week will take place from October 25 to 29, 2026, under the theme “Water as a Catalyst for Peace, Shared Prosperity and a Sustainable Planet”, under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Swailem received a report from Walid Haqiqi, Head of the Strategic Management Sector and Executive Director of Cairo Water Week, on preparations for the event.
The report confirmed the participation of 20 ministers, four special envoys and 19 deputy ministers or heads of delegations, alongside representatives of international and regional organisations and research and academic institutions.
The event will feature 137 technical and scientific sessions, organised with the participation of international partners, including the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the European Union, UNESCO, the International Water Management Institute and the World Water Council. The EU and FAO have joined the event as co-organisers.
Key sessions will address water security, green water, capacity building in Africa and the Arab region, and preparations for the 2026 UN Water Conference. Other discussions will focus on bilateral water partnerships in the Nile Basin, the African Water Facility Strategy for 2026-2030 and Africa’s Water Vision and Policy 2063.
The programme will also include the sixth International High-Level Seminar on Water Security, organised in co-operation with China’s Ministry of Water Resources and the World Water Council, as well as preparations for the 11th World Water Forum in Saudi Arabia.
Parallel events will include the seventh Arab Water Conference on October 26-27, alongside a meeting of the Arab Ministerial Water Council. The International Water, Wastewater, Infrastructure and Energy Exhibition and Conference will also be held from October 26 to 28, following an agreement to integrate it into Cairo Water Week.
