Minister of Education and Technical Education, Mohamed Abdel Latif, and Japanese Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Toshiko Abe, signed on Tuesday a letter of intent to expand co-operation in education on the sidelines of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9), held in Yokohama from August 20–22.

The agreement aims to strengthen partnerships in technical education and vocational training, open new areas of co-operation to support people with disabilities, and build on the achievements of the Egyptian-Japanese Schools Project.

Minister Abdel Latif praised Japan’s continued support, noting that the Egyptian-Japanese schools initiative has become a successful model that can be replicated across Africa. He welcomed greater cooperation in areas such as agriculture-focused technical education and invited Abe to attend the opening ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum.

For her part, Minister Abe expressed her satisfaction with the agreement, describing it as the result of sustained collaboration since Abdel Latif’s visit to Japan last February.

She reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting Egypt’s educational development and praised partnerships with Japanese companies.

She also highlighted Japan’s pride in the Egyptian-Japanese Schools Project, which will be showcased at the Japanese Ministry of Education’s EDU-Port pavilion during the TICAD conference as a model of international educational cooperation.

Both ministers have affirmed that the new agreement opens the door for more joint projects, particularly in technical education and support for students with special needs, while reinforcing Egypt and Japan’s shared commitment to advancing inclusive and high-quality education.
