Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mohamed Shaker, received in his office in Cairo on Sunday Uzbek First Deputy Minister of Energy, Azim I. Akhmed khadjaev.

The minister and the Uzbek official discussed co-operation and means of encouraging investments between their two countries in the electricity and renewable energy sector.

Minister Shaker referred to what he described as ‘distinguished’ political relations between Egypt and Uzbekistan.

The Egyptian electricity sector, he said, works hard to improve and develop all its services, including production, transmission and distribution.

The minister also referred to Egypt’s strategy to increase the contribution of renewable energy to electricity production.

He said Egypt also works to diversify the sources of electricity production by taking advantage of Egypt’s natural resources, especially new and renewable energy sources.

“Egypt wants to increase the contribution of renewable energy to electricity production to 42% by 2035,” the minister said.

He referred to cooperation with international companies in the implementation of pilot projects for the production of green hydrogen in Egypt.

This, he said, would be one step on the road to expanding this activity and the export of green hydrogen.

Minister Shaker revealed that Egypt had signed 23 memorandums of understanding for the production of green hydrogen, including nine framework agreements with major companies during the United Nations climate summit in Sharm el-Sheikh in November of last year.

“Green hydrogen is also receiving great attention as a promising source of energy in the near future,” the minister said.

First Deputy Minister, Akhmedkhadjaev, for his part, praised his country’s relations with Egypt.

He underlined the need for strengthening these relations in the coming period.

The Uzbek official also praised what he described as the ‘great expertise’ of the Egyptian electricity and renewable energy sector.
