Egypt’s Foreign Minister met on Wednesday, Congressman Brian Mast, Chair of the US House Foreign Affairs Committee, as part of a series of meetings the Egyptian top diplomat is holding with leaders and members of the US Congress during his current visit to Washington.

During the meeting, Minister Abdel-Aati affirmed Egypt’s keenness to enhance co-operation with the committee in a manner that supports the strategic partnership between Egypt and the US and serves mutual interests, according to a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry in Cairo, on Thursday.

He also highlighted ongoing co-operation across political, economic, security, and military fields, as well as Egypt’s role in promoting security and stability in the region.

The meeting featured in-depth discussions with the committee chair on a number of regional issues, including military escalation in the region and Egypt’s efforts to de-escalate tensions, developments in the Palestinian issue, and the situations in Lebanon and Sudan.

Egypt’s water security was a key issue in the discussions, with the foreign minister outlining the key parameters of the country’s position in this regard.

For his part, Congressman Mast voiced commitment to supporting the Egyptian-American strategic partnership, praising Cairo’s active and constructive efforts to promote peace, security, and stability in the Middle East.
