Egypt’s Health and Population Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar and Uganda’s Minister of State for Primary Health Care Charles Ayume have discussed means of further boosting health co-operation between the two countries.
The discussions, which took part on Monday evening, focused on expanding co-operation in manufacturing, import and packaging medicines and vaccines, as well as increasing Egyptian pharmaceutical exports to the Ugandan market.
The two sides also probed opportunities for joint investment in vaccine and pharmaceutical production and discussed sharing expertise in pharmaceutical regulation and oversight, the Egyptian ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
In addition, the talks covered co-operation in training doctors and nurses and exchanging expertise in oncology, cardiology, intensive care, dialysis and emergency medicine.
Abdel Ghaffar also discussed expanding treatment for Ugandan cancer patients at Egyptian hospitals and providing specialised training for Ugandan medical staff.
The two sides further discussed reviving and expanding co-operation to eliminate hepatitis C in Uganda, drawing on Egypt’s experience in combating the virus.
