Means of boosting bilateral ties were at the core of a phone call which Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aati received from his Tanzanian counterpart, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, on Monday. The two minister also exchanged views on a range of regional and African issues.

Abdel-Aati praised the growing momentum in Egypt–Tanzania relations, reaffirming Cairo’s commitment to expanding co-operation across key sectors, particularly in economy, investment, trade, industry and development.

The ministers highlighted the importance of the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project-being implemented by Egyptian companies-as a landmark initiative supporting shared interests and deeper integration between the two countries.

The Tanzanian minister commended the efficiency and expertise of Egyptian firms involved in major development projects, notably the dam.

The talks also addressed developments across Africa, particularly in the Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes region.

The two sides stressed the importance of supporting national institutions, respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity, and rejecting actions that could undermine stability or weaken state structures.

They underscored the need for comprehensive approaches that address both security and development challenges facing the continent, agreeing to enhance co-ordination at bilateral and multilateral levels to promote stability and sustainable development across Africa.

On water security, Abdel-Aati emphasised the importance of co-operation and integration among Nile Basin countries to achieve mutual benefit. He stressed the need to uphold a spirit of consensus and solidarity to restore inclusivity within the Nile Basin Initiative, rejecting unilateral measures and welcoming recent positive developments in its consultative process in line with international law.
