At the start of his visit to Istanbul to represent Egypt at the OECD Critical Minerals Forum, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi held talks on Tuesday with his Turkish counterpart, Alparslan Bayraktar, on boosting bilateral co-operation in the mining sector.
The discussions included a proposal to form joint working groups to explore opportunities for deeper collaboration in mineral exploration and research.
This would involve exchanging expertise on regulatory frameworks, licensing systems, and geological survey technologies, alongside examining investment prospects to maximize the added value of mineral resources.
The meeting also addressed potential cooperation in energy and natural gas in the Eastern Mediterranean, as well as ways to optimize the use of both countries’ infrastructure to enhance energy security and regional integration, particularly given Egypt and Türkiye’s strategic geographic positions.
Both ministers exchanged views on energy transition, hydrogen production, and low-carbon energy solutions, in line with national strategies in both countries.
They also discussed policies on energy efficiency and sustainable development, within the framework of Egypt’s Vision 2030 and Türkiye’s energy roadmap.
The talks underscored the importance of strengthening private sector cooperation in both countries to implement joint projects in mining and energy.
