The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has unveiled the schedule for the 12th African Universities Games “Cairo 2026,” to be held from September 9-16. The programmecombines eight days of sporting competitions and scientific events hosted across Egyptian universities and sports facilities.
Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Abdelaziz Konsowa, also acting minister of culture ,stressed the importance of preparing a comprehensive timetable to ensure smooth organisation. He noted that the event reflects Egypt’s commitment to combining sport with academic activities.
The games will feature 18 sports, including squash, swimming, badminton, football, volleyball, basketball, fencing, taekwondo, tennis, wrestling, athletics, judo, table tennis, karate and futsal.
Competitions will be hosted at the American University in Cairo, El‑Nady Club in the New Administrative Capital, Misr University for Science and Technology in 6 October City, the Olympic Centre in Maadi, the Hassan Mostafa Halls Complex, and facilities of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The opening ceremony will take place on September 9 at Cairo International Stadium’s cycling track from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., followed by a reception for delegations at the Cairo Opera House on September 10 .
The British University in Egypt (BUE) will host the scientific conference, with workshops and sessions on September 10 and research discussions on September 12.
