CAIRO – The Cabinet Media Centre said on Wednesday that the Egyptian state adopts a multi-axis national strategy to fight drug addiction through programs and mechanisms in co-operation with state institutions.
In a report, the centre said the new strategy is based on combatting addiction either through issuing legislation or security, social, health and awareness measures and merging addicts into society.
The report, which shed light on the state efforts to fight addiction from 2014 till 2020, coincides with issuing a law sacking the civil servants who take drugs, which took effect as of today (December 15).
The report pointed out the gravity of drugs on society and the problems facing Egyptian families as a result of the drug addiction which, it said, leads to financial pressures on the families and causes violence among children and teachers as well as failure and drop-out of students.
It added the addiction affects marriage life, causes negligence and family violence and leads to divorce because of the family disputes.
It pointed out that the addiction also affects the health of citizens and causes serious diseases such as Hepatitis C, AIDS, chest problems and kidney failure.
