Port of Thessaloniki and the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) signed a co-operation agreement to develop international trade and increase business volume.
The main objective of this co-operation is the exchange of knowledge and professional experience between the parties and the development of joint initiatives focusing on commercial and educational actions in the context of port activity.
The co-operation agreement was signed by the Executive Chairman of the BoD of ThPA S.A., Athanasios Liagkos and Captain Aly Assem, the General Manager of East Port-Said port, during an online ceremony.
The Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, Giannis Plakiotakis said: “This agreement creates additional opportunities for further development of the maritime trade between Europe and Asia, which are greatly enhanced by the strategic location of the two parties. We are particularly satisfied that the Port of Thessaloniki provides an evolving, efficient and reliable combined transport network, which secures and upgrades the supply chain, offering added value at an economic and social level”.
Chairman of SCZone Yehia Zaki said: “This co-operation is motivated by a mutual interest for the development of important trade flows, as well as logistics and port interfaces such as those represented by SCZone and ThPA S.A. and will result in increased traffic for the ports of SCZone.
With four industrial zones and six ports, the SCZone is located at the crossroads between Africa, Europe and Asia, and occupies 461km2 along the banks of the newly expanded Suez Canal, strategically located on the main trade route between Europe and Asia, playing a key role in world trade”.
Liagkos, said: “The signing of the cooperation agreement with SCZone is part of our strategy to propel the regional supply chain to a new era by providing connectivity that facilitates business growth, fostering economic and social added value and respecting the mandate for a “green” future for our planet and the younger generations. ThPA S.A. is more than a port. It is the gateway to an intermodal network and logistics solutions provider for the Balkans and the broader Southeast, Central and Eastern European region”.
Meanwhile, Chairman of SCZone Yehia Zaki and General Hossam El Din Mostafa, Chairman of the Roads and Bridges
Authority, signed yesterday a contract with Paul Welling, President of Trelleborg Marine Systems for rubber fenders and garter cannons that will be installed for the new berths in Sokhna port.
