Among the most prominent threats are smuggling and illegal migration which are tackled through advanced border surveillance and enhanced security measures.

Drugs, arms

In March 2024, the Egyptian Armed Forces official spokesman announced the sabotage of an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of drugs near northwest Quseir.

The operation resulted in the confiscation of 2,595kg of hashish, 354 packages of hydro cannabis, weighing 345kg, 40kg of opium, and 24kg of bhang.

In April, another operation successfully intercepted an attempt to smuggle firearms, including 440 shotguns, one machinegun, and a satellite communication device in the Western Military Region.

Border protection, security enhancement

The Navy and Border Guards maintain an active role in combating illegal migration. In July 2024, the Navy thwarted an illegal migration attempt involving a vessel carrying 31 individuals of various nationalities, rescuing 30 of them.

In August, 42 individuals were apprehended while attempting to smuggle weapons and ammunition in the Southern Military Region. The operation uncovered 56 firearms, 4,322 rounds of ammunition, and quantities of narcotics.

Consistent successes

Since the start of 2024, the Armed Forces have conducted numerous operations to confiscate substantial amounts of drugs.

In October, 345 packages of bhang were seized aboard a vessel, alongside the discovery of 27 acres of narcotic plantations.

In December, a major operation foiled an attempt to smuggle 63 individuals across the Mediterranean.

Commitment to national security

The Egyptian Armed Forces remain steadfast in conducting specialised operations to bolster border security, focusing on the fight against smuggling and illegal migration.
