Alamein International University has been recognised by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as the first Health-Promoting University in Egypt and Africa, marking a significant international achievement and reflecting Egypt’s efforts to integrate health, education, sustainability and human development.

The recognition was celebrated at the university on Thursday in the presence of Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Minister of Culture Abdel Aziz Konsowa.

For his part, Minister Abdel-Ghaffar said the recognition was the result of integrated institutional efforts that enabled the university to meet WHO assessment standards.

He stressed that a Health-Promoting University is not defined by isolated health initiatives, but by embedding health and well-being in institutional policies, governance, culture and the university environment.

He said the achievement reflects Egypt’s focus on human capital, prevention, health awareness and quality of life, while demonstrating the importance of co-operation between the health and education sectors, universities, civil society and other stakeholders.

Education Minister, for his part, described the recognition as evidence of Egyptian universities’ ability to meet international standards.

He said modern universities must contribute to human development and quality of life, supporting physical and mental health, healthy lifestyles, sustainability, emergency preparedness and community engagement.

He added that the ministry has adopted the Health-Promoting Universities initiative and seeks to expand its practices across Egyptian universities according to their individual needs.
