CAIRO/TUNIS – Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit has stressed the importance of joint Arab action in security domains, believing it is a “basic necessity” in the collective confrontation of crimes, especially cross-border incidents.
Arab countries are urged to exchange views about emerging developments in their communities, Abul Gheit advised during the inauguration of the 40th session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Interior in Tunisia Wednesday, pointing to shared social and cultural aspects.
An integrated security vision is urgently needed; one that takes into consideration the social conditions resulting from the global developments, Abul Gheit said in a statement distributed by the AL.
The AL chief pressed for action to “uproot” the Daesh and extremist ideologies from the Arab culture, noting this is the most effective way to eliminate terrorism – i.e. through dismantling its ideological structure.
Arab communities have, after 10 years of the emergence of Daesh, become more aware of the threat of their ideologies and have become more repelled by their takfiri approach, he said.
Abul Gheit added that the Arab interior ministries play a central role in solving such problems, reiterating the need to have radical solutions and political settlements go hand in hand with the arm of security.
