Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture el Sayyed el Qusair hailed on Monday measures implemented by the state to achieve self-sufficiency including land reclamation project in “Toshka el Kheir” in South Valley and “Mostaqbal Misr” (Egypt’s Future) project in New Delta.
The state also has taken measures to establish stations for treating used irrigation water, he said.
This came during his word at Egypt’s Senate on Monday during a session to clarify the agricultural policies of the government in light of the local and regional changes.
Qusair said that the file of food security has become one of the biggest challenges facing the developed and developing countries, adding that the food gap is not only an economic agricultural problem but it is also a strategic political issues linked with the regional and national security.
Directives have been given to the officials of the Ministry of Agriculture to communicate and coordinate with the parliament and the Senate to exchange points of view on several issues related to agriculture, he said.
