CAIRO – Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Acting Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghafar asserted Monday that Egypt has adopted several policies to secure social protection for the most vulnerable categories during the coronavirus pandemic.

These remarks were made at ceremony held by the Ministry of Health and Population to mark the National Population Day.

Deputy Health Minister Tareq Tawfiq, who delivered the word on behalf of the acting health minister, reviewed the state’s policy to protect the most vulnerable categories especially women and youths.

He said the state has economically supported women and this has led to a reduction in unemployment rate among them from 24.2 per cent in 2015 to 16 per cent in 2021.

He also underlined the reduction in unemployment rate in Egypt from 13 per cent in 2014 to 7.4 per cent in 2021 despite the economic, social and environment challenges besetting various world countries.

Tawfiq also pointed out to the influential partnership between the government, non-governmental and international organisations to work out tangible outcome from ongoing development plans, noting that the United Nations coordination to convene an International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) in Cairo, Egypt, in September 1994, was a milestone in the state’s population and development policies.
