CAIRO – Arab League (AL) Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit stressed the AL’s priorities in the Sudanese file, namely, the need to stop the war and the importance of preserving the territorial integrity of the Sudanese State, voicing the pan-Arab body’s full readiness to provide any required assistance to the Sudanese parties that would unite the Sudanese factions, with a view to resolving the crisis.
During a meeting Sunday at the AL General Secretariat’s headquarters with Abdullah Hamdok, head of the Coordination of the Civil Democratic Forces (Taqaddum), who is currently visiting Cairo with his accompanying delegation, the pan Arab body’s chief stressed the importance of supporting the Sudanese State in any initiative to reach a solution.
Gamal Rushdy, the AL’s Secretary General’s Official Spokesman said Aboul Gheit reviewed a comprehensive presentation made by the head of the Coordination of the Civil Democratic Forces on movements, as well as coordination meant to reach an immediate ceasefire through an inclusive Sudanese dialogue encompassing all parties to save the Sudanese state, spare the blood of the Sudanese people and preserve the State.
The spokesman added that Hamdok thanked the secretary-general for the initiative he took through a call he launched on March 5 to the Sudanese parties to establish a truce during the holy month of Ramadan, hoping that the parties would build on it to reach a political solution to the crisis.
