A total of 89 extremely dangerous takfiris were killed during Armed Forces strikes targeting terrorist elements in North Sinai in the past period. A statement issued by the Egyptian Armed Forces General Command on Sunday said that the strikes were launched within the framework of the Armed Forces’ sustained efforts to hunt down and crush terrorist elements in all strategic directions.
Successive strikes and quality operations launched by the Armed Forces in the past period resulted also in the seizure of 73 automatic rifles, 140 safes, 5,606 multi-caliber rounds, 34 wireless devices, a camera-supported drone and a night vision device.
Also seized during these strikes were a laptop, a number of mobile phones and sums of money. In addition, 404 explosive devices, four explosive belts, 59 motorbikes and 52 vehicles used by takfiri elements were discovered on main roads and subsequently destroyed, the Armed Forces General Command said in the statement.
Border Guard troops, meanwhile, succeeded through co-operation with Military Engineers Corps elements in spotting and destroying 14 tunnel holes used by terrorists to infiltrate into North Sinai, the General Command said.
Within the framework of efforts to tighten security measures in the Western direction, the Air Force managed in coordination with Border Guards to launch pre-emptive strikes against terrorist elements, resulting in detection, targeting and destruction of 200 four-wheel-drive vehicles, some of which were loaded with arms and ammunition, while attempting to break in prohibited zones on the country’s western and southern borders, the General Command said.
During the Armed Forces’ brave combat operations, eight of its heroes gained the honour of being martyred or injured, the General Command said, adding that that comes in affirmation of the resolve of Armed Forces personnel to uproot the remaining roots of terrorism and extremism and to sustain the efforts for building and development in all parts of the country.
