2nd Nasser African Leadership Fellowship classifications announced

The Fellowship is scheduled for June 1-15, 2021 in Cairo, a ministry statement said.

The ministry said 774 Egyptians – 63.8 per cent males, 36.2 per cent females – had applied for the 2nd Cohort.

Some 46.3 per cent of applicants are of the 25-34 age group, of which 62.7 per cent are females and 37.3 per cent are males, while 33.5 per cent are of the 20-24 age group, of which 61 per cent are females and 39 per cent are males.

Applicants aged 35-40 – 67.5 per cent females, 32.5 per cent males form 20.2 per cent of the total, the ministry statement said.

Egyptian applicants are from the public, private and government sectors and civil society. Some 53.2 per cent of applicants are graduates, while postgraduates, and diploma holders account for 12.8 per cent, master’s degree holders, 24.3 per cent, and PhDs, 9.7 per cent.

The Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership builds upon Egypt’s ongoing efforts – following its chairmanship of the African Union in 2019 to boost the role by African youth providing them with all forms of support and training, in addition to empowering them to occupy leadership positions, in order to capitalise on their potential and insights.

It is also one of the executive mechanisms of the following: Egypt Vision 2030, the 10 principles of the Afro-Asian People’s Solidarity Organisation, Africa Agenda 2063, Sustainable Development Goals 2030, South-South Co-operation, African Union Roadmap on Harnessing the Demographic Dividend through Investments in Youth-African Youth Charter.

The Nasser Leadership Fellowship First Cohort was launched in June 2019 under the auspices of Prime Minister Dr Mostafa Madbouli, targeting young African executive leaders from different professional disciplines within their own communities, with the objective of popularising Egypt’s development experience in institution/national character building.
