Chairman of Egypt’s General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) Walid Gamal El-Din on Monday attended the ceremony of laying the foundation stone for a $117 million project by China’s Zhejiang Jiansheng Group Co. Ltd. (Jasan Group) in West Qantara Industrial Zone, Ismailia Governorate.

Attending the ceremony were Ismailia Governor Nabil Hasaballah, SCZone Vice Chairman for the Northern Region Captain Mohamed Ibrahim, SCZone Vice Chairman for Investment and Promotion Affairs Moustafa Sheikhou, Jasan Group Chairman Zhang Mawei and a number of senior executive officials.

The project will be implemented in three successive phases over an area of 300,000 square metres and will be fully self-financed, according to an SCZone statement.

The industrial complex will include facilities for spinning and weaving, ready-made and sportswear, seamless garments, hosiery, accessories, rubber fabrics and dyeing.

The project aims to export 90 per cent of its production to global markets while allocating the remaining 10 per cent to the domestic market.

It is expected to create around 6,000 direct jobs once fully operational.

The project marked a new milestone in the industrial development of Qantara West and reflected the SCZone’s success in transforming the area into a specialised hub for spinning, weaving and ready-made garments, the SCZone Chief Gamal El-Din said.

He highlighted the area’s strategic location, integrated infrastructure and proximity to major transport networks and SCZone ports on both the Red Sea and Mediterranean coasts, which enhance the competitiveness of Egyptian products in global markets.

He added that the growing interest of major international companies demonstrated investors’ confidence in the SCZone and its ability to attract value-added, export-oriented industries.

The SCZone contracted 117 industrial projects during the 2025/2026 fiscal year, with total investments of $7.26 billion, supporting foreign direct investment, industrial localisation, exports, job creation and Egypt’s economic competitiveness.

Zhang said the decision to invest in Egypt reflected Jasan Group’s confidence in the country’s future and investment potential, citing its strategic location, commercial advantages and access to global markets.

The company plans to deploy smart manufacturing, automation, digital management and green manufacturing technologies, while creating jobs and training workers to support the development of Egypt’s textile industry.

The West Qantara Industrial Zone has emerged as a major SCZone success story, with previously waterlogged land transformed into an investment-attractive industrial zone within two years.

The area now hosts 54 projects representing nine nationalities, with combined investments of around $1.54 billion and approximately 68,915 direct jobs.

The spinning, weaving and ready-made garment sector accounts for the largest share, with 43 projects.
