CAIRO – The meetings of the 113th session of the Arab Economic and Social Council kicked off on Thursday at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab League (AL) at the ministerial level.
The session is chaired by Jordanian Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yousef Al Shamali.
AL Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit participated in the session alongside Arab ministers of finance, economy and trade and their representatives.
The session’s agenda is set to discuss a report of the AL Secretary General, follow up the implementation of the 112th session’s decisions and review the general secretariat’s activities between the 112th and the 113th sessions.
It is also set to discuss the economic and social development agenda for the upcoming Arab Summit in Bahrain, due to be held in May, and consider means to promote Arab-international cooperation in social and development domains, among others.
The Economic and Social Council is an institution of the Arab League that is concerned with economic and social affairs for joint Arab action.
The council is also responsible for the formulation of the general policy for the Arab economic cooperation and integration and the development of joint strategies in this area.
