The Ecotourism Development Association (EDA) launched an initiative to spread awareness of the importance of climate friendly tourism and make Egyptian tourism more sustainable.
Titled ‘Towards Climate Friendly Tourism’, the initiative was launched at the Blue Region, one of several sections of COP27 in Sharm el-Sheikh.
It will raise awareness of the importance of reducing emissions resulting from tourism and travel.
The initiative will also prepare a generation of tourists with environmentally and climate-friendly choices and motivate the private sector to integrate climate-friendly tourism into the operating mechanisms of hotels.
It will support local communities affected by climate change and support and defend compensation for loss and damage.
The EDA launched the initiative to achieve further development and growth in tourism. This coincides with the efforts of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in the field of sustainable tourism.
The ministry’s strategy aims to achieve sustainability in tourism and archaeological activities, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and Egypt Vision 2030.
The EDA was established in 2018 to support sustainable and environmental tourism in Egypt.
