The General Administration of Factories Control carried out 134 supervisory inspections of food factories nationwide, according to the latest report by the Information Centre of the National Food Safety Authority during the period May 4–17.

Notably, nine food facilities were registered with the National Food Safety Authority, and nine met registration requirements.

Examination, inspection, and accreditation visits by the Department of Control of Packing Stations and Centres registered 11 establishments and issued 5,184 agricultural export permits.

Onions topped the list of exports at 32,000 tons, followed by potatoes at 30,000 tons and beans at 5,000 tons.

Citrus fruit exports were in the lead with 111,000 tons, followed by strawberries at 16,000 tons and grapes at 10,000 tons.

Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Spain, and the Netherlands were the biggest customers for Egyptian products out of 193 importers.

The General Administration for Registration and Licensing of Private Food registered 122 products and 25 companies, carried out 11 inspection visits, and examined 883 new products.

The room for strategic goods management has inspected the functioning of the local wheat receiving committees and overcome any obstacles in the number of governorates.

The Authority’s managers also periodically pass through local wheat storage sites within each governorate.

Control of Commercial Chains has conducted 32 commissariats to ensure that their branches meet the requirements of food safety.

The number of establishments registered has reached 3, bringing the number of chains registered to date to 1673 for 47 commercial chains.

The Warehouse Control Department implemented 36 monitoring missions in a number of governorates.

The General Department of Slaughterhouses conducted 16 inspection visits to poultry and meat slaughterhouses, as well as 92 visits to intestinal factories, in addition to issuing 33 permissions for exports to the EU.

The European Commission has accepted the results of samples sent to the French laboratory for the analysis of drug residues, allowing the continued opening of export doors to the EU.

The National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) has launched extensive inspection campaigns to ensure food safety.

This came in line with directives from NFSA chairman Dr Tareq El-Houby to tighten the control on food establishments to apply food safety.
