Sinai Cement Company launched a new social initiative to plant 1200 trees in the streets and schools of the two cities of El-Arish and Bir al-Abed, in co-operation with the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA) and North Sinai Governorate.

This is in continuation of the successes realized by the company in the field of community development and improvement of the quality of life, a senior company official said.

Tamer Magdy, Managing Director of Sinai Cement Company, added that “the process is also part of an integrated, wider plan the company sets for the development of the community in which it operates, especially in North Sinai”.

Magdy noted that the initiative aims to achieve sustainable development and support the state’s endeavors to preserve the environment and confront the phenomenon of climate change.

Magdy referred to the importance of the initiative’s timing, which coincides with the convening of the 27th session of the COP27 summit, which Egypt is hosting for the first time in Sharm el-Sheikh from November 6-18.

“The world is witnessing dangerous climate changes that require concerted efforts to increase green spaces for reducing carbon emissions and curbing the climate changes. The “100 million trees” initiative that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has launched is a best proof,” he said.

He concluded that the 1200 tree initiative is just the beginning of a larger number that the company intends to plant in the coming periods.
