Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) Tarek Amer said on Wednesday that the political leadership supports efforts of economic and trade integration and co-operation between Egypt and African countries.
Egypt supports all steps aimed at strengthening trade, economic and financial partnerships among African states with a view to raising the standards of living of the continent’s peoples, Amer told the 29th annual meetings of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank).
The meetings are held in the New Administrative Capital under the theme ‘Realising the AfCFTA Potential in the Post Covid-19 Era – Leveraging the Power of the Youth’.
AfCFTA stands for the African Continental Free Trade Area.
The CBE governor said Afreximbank has a key role in supporting trade among African countries, noting in this regard that financial institutions, as well as regional and local banks have the ability to revitalise economic and trade co-operation among African states.
Amer also emphasised the importance of inter-African co-operation to combat poverty and raise the standards of living in countries of the continent through financing projects and generating jobs.
