Egyptian Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), Dr Ali el-Ghamrawi received a high-level delegation from the World Health Organization (WHO) headed by Assistant Director-General for Access to Medicines and Health Products, Dr Yukiko Nakatani as part of joint co-operation and WHO efforts to support Egypt’s drug control systems.

El-Ghamrawi stressed that they always seek to develop EDA’s performance in line with international standards, with a focus on achieving the drug security for Egypt and the region.

Nakatani praised the efforts of EDA, stressing the continued support of WHO to cement EDA’s position and leadership role in the region.

Also, she highlighted Egypt’s outstanding role and its importance for WHO and its linkage between the pharmaceutical markets of Africa and Asia.

During the meeting, they discussed co-operation in various areas and the support provided by WHO to EDA to achieve the WLA level (WHO Listed Authority), which represents an advanced step towards leadership in regulating pharmaceutical industries as well as strengthening Egypt’s role as a regional platform for health co-operation.

WHO delegation toured the Egyptian Drug Authority’s laboratories and the BioGeneric factory.

This comes in line with close co-operation between WHO and EDA in the field of enhancing the quality of drug industries and ensuring health security regionally and internationally.
