CAIRO – The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) announced an increase in the total lending balances granted by banks to their clients by EGP 52 billion to record EGP 3.490 trillion in June compared to EGP 3.438 trillion in May.
The volume of loans granted to the government upped to hit EGP 1.302 trillion, including EGP 868.5 billion in local currency and EGP 434.05 billion in foreign currency, according to a monthly report by the bank.
The total loans granted to non-government entities increased to reach EGP 2.187 trillion in June.
Loans granted to the agricultural sector amounted to EGP 49.58 billion in June, while those granted to the industrial sector amounted to EGP 490.08 billion.
Loans granted to the trade sector hit EGP 220.3 billion while loans in the services domain reached 478.8 billion.
Loans granted to the household sector, individuals, non-profit local bodies and foreign organizations operating in Egypt recorded EGP 683.7 billion pounds.
Meanwhile, the portfolio of securities and bank investments in Treasury bills (T-bills) recorded about EGP 3.739 trillion in June compared to EGP 3.612 trillion in May.
