CAIRO – The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said that the Consumer price indexes (CPIs) for the entire republic reached 197.6 points in January 2024, recording a change of 31.2% compared to 35.2% in December 2023.
In a statement issued recently the CAPMAS said, the decrease is due to a decline in the prices of vegetables by 0.8% and change in the prices of grains and bread by 3.7%, meat and poultry by 2.9%, fish and seafood by 1.9%, dairy, cheese and eggs by 2%. 6%, oils and fats 4.4%, coffee, tea and cocoa 3%, mineral, carbonated water and natural juices 2.1% and shoes 2.4%.
Home furnishings decreased by 2.3%, home appliances by 2.5%, outpatient services by 1.3%, vehicle purchases by 2.8%, transportation services by 1.5%, telephone and fax service equipment by 3.7%, audio equipment, photography, and information processing accounted for 3.2%, ready-made meals accounted for 2% and hotel services accounted for 3.3%.
The monthly inflation rate reached 1.7% in January 2024 compared to 1.2% in December 2023, according to the statement.
The food and beverage section recorded a change of 1.3%, as the prices of vegetables decreased by (-0.8%), and the prices of grains and bread changed by 3.7%, the statement said.
Meat and poultry are 2.9%, fish and seafood are 1.9%, dairy, cheese and eggs are 2.6%, oils and fats are 4.4%, fruits are 0.4%, sugar and sugary foods by 0.8%, coffee, tea and cocoa by 3.0%, mineral and carbonated water and natural juices by 2.1%, it said.
