Egypt and Syria held their second governmental meeting in Damascus, focusing on co-operation in trade, investment, energy, electricity, oil and gas, and free zones, Egypt’s foreign ministry said in a statement.
The meeting was co-chaired by Egyptian Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab Affairs Ihab Fahmy and Syrian Foreign Minister’s Adviser Mohammad al-Jaffal, with representatives of relevant ministries and government bodies from both countries taking part, the statement said.
The two sides reviewed the outcome of their first governmental meeting, held in Cairo on April 15, 2026, and discussed proposed mechanisms for implementing agreements reached on priority sectors.
They also agreed to consider forming relevant technical working groups as soon as possible, according to the statement.
Egypt and Syria welcomed the completion of the formation of the Egyptian-Syrian Joint Business Council and the holding of its first session on the sidelines of the meeting.
The two sides also agreed on the importance of organising a joint business forum to explore trade and investment opportunities and advance economic co-operation in priority sectors, the ministry said.
