Egypt is taking steady strides towards localising its automotive industry and establishing itself as a key export hub for the African continent. As global carmakers operating in the country pivot towards local assembly, domestic components now account for more than half of the vehicle production process, helping to stabilise market prices. Highlighting this industrial shift, Nissan Egypt has officially launched sales of its newest locally assembled vehicle, the Nissan Magnite, across the country today following the start of production at its 6th of October City plant last month.
The decision to assemble the compact SUV in Egypt represents the culmination of a US$45-million investment by Nissan Motor Company. The move directly aligns with the country’s Automotive Industrial Development Program and Vision 2030, which seek to transform Egypt into a regional manufacturing and export base. Featuring more than 55% local content, the Nissan Magnite unifies bold design, advanced technology, and exceptional value while opening the compact SUV segment to a new generation of Egyptian drivers.
Combining a five-star safety rating with impressive fuel efficiency, the vehicle delivers confidence, convenience, and lower running costs. Built to meet the evolving expectations of local motorists, the model blends Japanese engineering with practical innovation to redefine everyday mobility through an unmatched technology-to-value proposition.
Bold design and practical utility
The exterior of the Nissan Magnite marries an imposing honeycomb grille, sleek LED Bi-Projector headlamps, and signature L-shaped daytime running lights with 205 mm ground clearance, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, and functional roof rails capable of carrying a 50 kg load.
Inside, the cabin features a two-tone leatherette interior, multi-colour ambient lighting, and generous legroom. The interior incorporates over 19 litres of smart storage, including a cooled glovebox alongside central and rear armrests with built-in storage. Practicality is further enhanced by standard 60:40 split-folding rear seats, which expand the baseline 336-litre boot capacity to 690 litres.
Advanced technology and comfort
Technology takes centre stage with an intuitive eight-inch floating touchscreen supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, paired with a seven-inch digital instrument cluster.
Driver convenience is supported by an intelligent key with push-button start, offering segment-first walk-away locking, approach unlocking, and a remote engine start function with a 60-metre range. Passenger comfort is elevated by rear air-conditioning vents and a class-leading bezel-less auto-dimming rear-view mirror. For cabin wellness, an integrated Plasma Cluster Ionizer actively removes pollutants and germs, reducing the Air Quality Index from 400 to 30 within 20 minutes.
Uncompromising safety and dynamic performance
Built with a strong focus on structural integrity, the vehicle holds a five-star adult occupant safety rating from Global NCAP. It offers comprehensive protection through six standard airbags covering front, side, and curtain zones. Additional safety features include a class-exclusive 360-degree Intelligent around View Monitor, automatic LED headlamps, and seatbelt reminders for all seating positions.
The model comes fully equipped with advanced braking and stability control systems, including Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), Hill Start Assist (HSA), and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Hydraulic Brake Assist (HBA), and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
Under the bonnet, the Nissan Magnite is powered by an efficient 1.0-litre turbocharged engine mated to an advanced X-TRONIC CVT transmission. Generating 100 PS of power and 152 Nm of torque, the powertrain delivers responsive handling and smooth gear transitions for both urban driving and long-distance travel. The vehicle boasts an impressive fuel economy rating of 17.3 km per litre, supported by a 36-litre fuel tank.
Tailored for local roads
Tailored for forward-thinking Egyptian motorists seeking style, substance, and agility, the smartly engineered cabin comfortably seats five adults. It balances a high-stance road presence with nimble handling for daily urban commuting, making it an ideal option for families and professionals alike. The model has launched in four distinct variants, with prices starting from 788,000 EGP.
“The official launch of the locally assembled Nissan Magnite represents a defining milestone in Nissan Egypt’s growth journey, reflecting our ongoing commitment to investing in the Egyptian market and building on our market leadership for three consecutive years,” remarked Mohamed Abd El- Samad, Managing Director of Nissan Africa. “With a new production line that adds over 10,000 vehicles to our annual capacity, we are not only expanding our manufacturing footprint, but also meeting growing market demand while offering Egyptian consumers an exceptional choice that blends advanced global standards with outstanding value.”
“This model embodies our full confidence in Egypt’s industrial capabilities and manufacturing excellence, while reinforcing Egypt’s position as a strategic hub for manufacturing, export, and growth, providing the necessary production capacity to serve customers in the local market while supporting Nissan’s broader regional ambitions,” Abd El- Samad added.
Ramy Mohareb, Head of Brand & Communications at Nissan Africa, stated: “The incredible anticipation surrounding Nissan Magnite proves it is exactly the vehicle modern Egyptian drivers have been waiting for. By delivering an unmatched combination of Japanese engineering, smart technology, and striking aesthetics, Nissan Magnite redefines what a compact SUV can offer. It is the ultimate choice for urban lifestyles, joining our local lineup to broaden consumer choice, elevate the driving experience, and deliver on our brand promise of innovation and excitement.”
The introduction of the locally assembled model reinforces Nissan’s long-term commitment to Egypt as a strategic growth hub for African markets. The initiative accelerates local parts sourcing, creates jobs, and advances eco-friendly operations through solar energy usage and water recycling. By harmonising product innovation, industrial investment, and close collaboration with government stakeholders, Nissan Egypt continues to elevate domestic manufacturing capabilities, proudly strengthening the nation’s position as a competitive automotive manufacturing and export powerhouse for the region.
