Director of the Arab League’s department of economic integration Bahgat Abul Nasr said the 31st Arab summit in Algeria is set to probe several economic issues, particularly food security and Arab free trade zone as well as taxes of digital economy.

Abul Nasr made his remarks on Thursday on the sidelines of the summit’s preparatory meetings.

He said the files of food security, the Arab free trade zone and taxes of digital economy will figure high in the summit.

Some new proposals are also set to be presented at the summit, including the launch of a mechanism for unified customs tariff, he said.

He pointed out that 14 Arab countries will partake at the meetings of the summit and are set to hold negotiations on the issue of taxes of digital economy.

The economic issues are very important in light of challenges facing Arab countries over the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, he said, adding that the summit’s agenda is set to address a new strategy for food security.

However, Algeria’s Permanent Representative to Arab League Hamid Shabira announced that an “Algeria declaration” will crown the Arab summit – due to be held in Algeria on November 1.

The declaration will review the issues raised by the representatives and ministers.

This came in Shabira’s statements on Thursday on the sidelines of the summit’s preparatory meetings due in Algeria on November 1 and runs for two days.

Shabira pointed out to other files on the agenda topped by the Palestinian cause and the situation in Libya and Syria.

He also highlighted the importance of Arab food security issue in light of the impact of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis.
