CAIRO – The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) announced a 15.8% increase in Egyptian exports to Russia in 2024, compared to $524 million in 2023.

The value of trade exchange between Egypt and Russia will reach $6.6 billion in 2024, compared to $5.6 billion in 2023, an increase of 18.9%, CAPMAS added.

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi is on a current visit to the Russian capital, Moscow, to participate in the Victory Day celebrations on May 9, at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to data released by the CAPMAS in statement Thursday, the value of Egyptian imports from Russia reached dlrs 6 billion in 2024, compared to dlrs 5 billion in 2023, an increase of 19.3%.

The most important commodity groups exported by Egypt to Russia in 2024 were fruits and vegetables worth $419 million, vegetables worth $111 million, plastics and their products worth $17 million, grains and oil fruits worth $13 million, and vegetable and fruit preparations worth $10 million, the statement said.

It also indicated that the most important commodity groups imported by Egypt from Russia in 2024 were grains worth $3.1 billion, iron and its products worth $1.3 billion, vegetable and animal fats and oils worth $526 million, wood and its products and charcoal worth $262 million, and fuels and mineral oils worth $205 million.

The value of Russian investments in Egypt reached dlrs 91.5 million during the fiscal year 2023/24, compared to $141.2 million during the fiscal year 2022/23, said the statement.

Meanwhile, Egyptian investments in Russia reached $29.8 million during the fiscal year 2023/24, compared to $18.6 million during the fiscal year 2022/23, it added.

The value of remittances from Egyptians working in Russia amounted to $1.9 million during the fiscal year 2023/24, compared to $14.9 million during the fiscal year 2022/23, according to the statement.

Meanwhile, the value of remittances from Russians working in Egypt amounted to $71,000 during the fiscal year 2023/24, compared to $138,000 during the fiscal year 2022/23.

Egypt’s population reached 107.6 million in May 2025, while Russia’s population reached 144.1 million during the same period, the statement said.

The number of Egyptians residing in Russia, according to estimates of the Egyptian Embassy in Moscow, reached 40,000 by the end of 2023, the statement read.
