Egyptian Transport Minister Kamel el Wazir inspected on Monday al-Salam/New Administrative Capital/Tenth of Ramadan City Light Railway Transit (LRT) train project.

Wazir, accompanied by Chinese Ambassador in Cairo Liao Liqiang and officials from the National Authority for Tunnels and the General Authority for Roads and Bridges and Chinese CREC- AVIC consortium, inspected construction works at El Obour station where he called for increasing the number of equipment and workers to make sure the project is finalized on time.

He said construction works will be finalized with the arrival of two LRT trains mid August ahead of their pilot operation.

The electric train project will connect commuters with the Cairo Metro’s third line at the Adly Mansour metro station.

It will also meet the Administrative Capital’s monorail at the Administrative Capital Station 2, and connect with the al-Alamein/Ain Sokhna Express Electric Train, which will intersect the Administrative Capital.

In statements on the sidelines of the inspection tour, Wazir said there are political directives to improve the transport system in Egypt and expand operation of advanced and environment-friendly transport means to facilitate the movement of passengers, citing the monorail, LRT and high-speed electric trains projects.

He said Phase One and Two of the project includes 12 stations and extends over a length of 70 km. The speed of LRT will reach 120 km/hr and it will transport 350,000 passengers per day.
