Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli reiterated on Thursday the government’s keenness on securing needed medicines and medical supplies to avoid any shortage.
He stressed that there is a full coordination with the Central Bank of Egypt to secure funds needed to buy medicines and other necessary medical supplies.
Madbouli made the statements during a meeting with Health and Population Minister Khaled abdel Ghaffar, head of the Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement
Baha el Din Zidan, head of the Egyptian Drug Authority Tamer Essam and Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt Gamal Negm.
The health minister reviewed current stockpiles of medicines and medical supplies and underway negotiations with global companies to localize manufacture of drugs as well as ministry’s efforts to lure more investments in the pharmaceutical industry.
Zidan stressed that the current drugs stockpiles are sufficient for October.
He referred to the authority’s efforts to apply latest technologies in the medical domain, citing cooperation between the authority and PerkinElmer company to manufacture blotting paper used in the early diagnosis and detection of diseases.
