Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi held a meeting on Sunday to follow up latest developments of the national projects for the reclamation of desert areas across the nation.
Attending the meeting were Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam, Director General of the National Service Projects Agency of the Armed Forces Major General Walid Abul-Magd, and Head of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority Major General Ahmed al-Azazi, Presidency Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said.
President Sisi was briefed on the joint efforts by various agencies concerned pertaining to horizontal and vertical expansion projects aiming to increase the size and productivity of farm lands nationwide. Reference was made in this regard to the projects of East Owinat, Toshka, Sinai, Upper Egypt and the New Delta, as well as future expansions, Spokesman Fahmy said.
During the meeting, President Sisi gave directives for carrying on with the intensive work in the grand projects under way in the fields of irrigation, agriculture and food production, which have gained prime importance in light of the present colossal challenges on the global level over the past few years, Spokesman Fahmy said.
In addition, the president stressed the keenness of the state to rationalise the use of water resources and maximise the benefiting from the productivity of a water units, Spokesman Fahmy said.
President Sisi also called for mobilising all potentials and expertise to bolster the factors of success in projects, through scientific studies and comprehensive planning, the Spokesman Fahmy added.
