CAIRO– Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides has praised the “successful” partnership between his country and Egypt, saying that it is based on mutual respect.
Cyprus is seeking to further boost the partnership with Egypt, Christodoulides said in a joint press conference with Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi following their meeting at the Itihadiya Palace earlier Wednesday.
He thanked Egypt for its support for Cyprus, noting that his country strongly backs co-operation between Cairo and the EU.
Christodoulides said he is looking forward to participating in a meeting with Egypt and Greece as part of the trilateral cooperation mechanism.
The Cypriot leader told reporters his talks with Sisi took up means of boosting bilateral co-operation, as well as files of mutual concern.

Christodoulides greatly appreciated the warm welcome he got from Sisi, stressing that it is an honor for him to visit Cairo for the first time as the president of Cyprus.

He hailed as “historical” relations between Nicosia and Cairo, and hoped the two sides would act to further boost ties.

The interests of Cyprus and Egypt are governed by a common vision of a stable and peaceful East Mediterranean region and a calm Middle East, Christodoulides told the press conference.

He touched upon consistent views and common visions between the two countries that share a long history.
