CAIRO- Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and his Cypriot Nikos Christodoulides counterpart agreed on the importance of achieving a quantum leap in all spheres of co-operation, especially energy and power linkage sectors.
They also agreed on the importance of increasing trade exchange and boosting cooperation in the economic, military and development domains.
At a joint press conference with his Cypriot counterpart, Sisi expressed happiness that the Cypriot president chose to visit Egypt following his election as president of the country, saying this reflects distinguished relations between the two countries.
He expressed hope that the coming period will witness more cooperation and coordination between the two countries in a way that will achieve prosperity to both nations and enhance strategic partnership and friendly ties between them.
Sisi said he agreed with the Cypriot president on maintaining coordination towards political issues.
Sisi stressed that Egypt’s’ stance towards achieving peace and stability in the Middle East remains unchangeable, underlining the importance that all sides would respect international law and UN Charter, especially articles related to non-interference in other countries’ internal affairs and respecting territorial waters.
Sisi reiterated Egypt’s support for endeavors to settle the Cypriot issue in accordance with international legitimacy principles and relevant UN Security Council resolutions and its rejection of any unilateral steps that violate UN resolutions.

The two leaders agreed on the importance of holding elections in Libya as soon as possible and getting all foreign troops and mercenaries out of Libyan lands.
They underlined the importance of restoring Libya’s stability and integrity of its territories.
As for the Palestinian issue, they underlined the importance of rallying international efforts to deescalate the situation in the Palestinian territories, end settlement activities and work for final settlement to achieve peace and set up an independent Palestinian state.
Sisi updated the Cypriot president on Egypt’s efforts to reach a just settlement to Ethiopia dam issue through reaching a binding agreement regulating the filling and operation of the dam.
