Palestinian presidency holds Israel responsible for serious escalation of violence 11 - Egyptian Gazette

Nabil Abu Rudeineh, spokesman for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, held the far-right Israeli government responsible for the serious rise in Israeli violence against the Palestinian people, the latest of which was the arson attack by extremist settlers which targeted a house in the town of Sinjil, in the Ramallah province, WAFA reported on Sunday.

The spokesman also condemned the Israeli raid this early morning on the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied Jerusalem and the physical assault on worshipers by Israeli police.

“The Israeli occupation government is trying to drag the region into the cycle of violence and escalation by ramping up its war against our Palestinian people, and by escalating murders, arson attacks and incursions into the holy sites,” he added, according to MENA.

Abu Rudeineh urged regional and international parties “to intervene, curb and press the government of extremism in Israel to stop the escalating attacks by its army and settlers during the holy month of Ramadan before an explosion of the situation in the region, the consequences of which will be borne by the Israeli government alone”, according to MENA.

The Israeli forces broke into Al-Aqsa Mosque earlier yesterday, forcing worshippers to get out of the mosque, Palestinian sources said.

The occupation forces assaulted the worshippers and tried to seize their cell phones, the sources added.

Some worshippers were arrested.

The forces also banned worshippers who left the mosque from coming back.

Meanwhile, the Israeli troops ramped up security measures in the northern West Bank city of Nablus yesterday.

Palestinian sources said the Israeli forces closed Hawara Checkpoint, before all those leaving the city and carried out thorough search campaigns.

They also closed Beit Furik checkpoint and carried out search operations at Sera checkpoint, the sources added.

In addition, Israeli troops arrested two Palestinians from Hawara village in Nablus after having attacked their homes, they said.
