Egyptian Ambassador in Rome Bassam Rady presented an account of Egypt’s efforts that led to the outcomes of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) that was held in Sharm el-Sheikh last November.

The presentation came during a briefing session of the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).

The ambassador, who is also Egypt’s Permanent Representative at the (FAO) said:

“History will record COP27 as a milestone in the course of climate action, not only in terms of hosting and the good organisation of the largest international gathering in the world regarding the number of participant heads of state and government, delegations and international organisations, but also at the level of outcomes.”

Rady referred to the agreement to establish the Loss and Damage Fund for Vulnerable Countries and the summit’s focus on shifting from pledges to actions.

“Africa was at the heart of the Sharm discussions, which led to the issuance of six initiatives related to the continent,” Rady added.

The summit stressed the intertwining of climate issues with several other international topics, particularly food security, he said.

In addition, Rady stressed President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s keenness on youth taking part in the conference discussions, as part of the state general approach seeking to support young people and help involve them in all national activities and events.
